The 39 steps is a play adapted from a book series called Richard Hannay which is the name of the main character, written by John Buchan. The story is about an ordinary man, Richard who is suddenly involved in a mission which consists in saving the country by preventing someone from revealing important secrets stolen from the British government.

Although it is based on this book, the stage director of this adaptation decided to use extracts from the movie. That was a good choice because, as the actors said, they had to abridge the play since they needed to rewrite it for the three actors instead of four (one of them was ill on that day). So, the extracts from the movie could help the public to follow the events that were not in the script anymore.

Talking about the actors, I found them excellent because they were able to tell a story which is serious (there are murders and spying …) with a lot of humor and lightness. As they said, the acting was well done because people who had difficulties to understand English could get the main situations thanks to the actors and the direction.

Finally, I think that it was really good that at the end of the show, the actors were ready to listen to the audience's questions and that they explained everything that I wrote above, about direction, acting and adaptation. It was a very nice moment.

The 39 steps was performed by three young actors from Britain who are really gifted. I recommend this play because they manage to talk about something serious like murders …. with a lot of humor. The set is well adapted to the action. To conclude, it is a perfect adaptation in which humor is essential.

The 39 steps is a play adapted from a novel by John Buchan by the Dreampark Theatre company. It deals with the story of a man who is bored in his London flat. Then, after attending Mr Memory's show, he gets involved in strange events.

I really liked the fact that the actors managed to play different roles almost at the same time. In my opinion, it is a funny play because of the German accent of one of the characters. Although you can have problems to understand English all over the play, we can follow the plot because they manage to make you understand it by moving their bodies and with their faces. So, it is a really great play with good actors and a funny story. So, go and see it!

Secrets to love

On Thursday, December 10th 2015, I saw an adaptation of The 39 steps. An actor and two actresses appeared on stage to embody different characters. They are good performers who made us discover a well acted story. It is true that there is suspense but it is sometimes difficult to follow the plot and some scenes are overplayed.

But, it is a good moment to share with family or friends if you want to have a good laugh because this play is surprising and really funny.

If you want to discover a play with humour and a lot of suspense, don't hesitate and go and see the Dreampark Theatre company's performance. Normally, I do not like watching plays because I think they are often boring. But, THIS ONE has made me love drama! It is very funny, interesting, cool, and the story is easy to understand. It was a pleasure for me to see this play, the setting, the outfits, the props…. It is THE play to see so don't miss this opportunity!!!

The 39 steps : On the road to success

The 39 steps is an adaptation from the novel by John Buchan. Three days ago, I attended the performance of three actors from the Dreampark Theatre company and I do not regret it. Really, it was excellent. The actors are gifted, the story is interesting and the action is easy to understand as well as their speaking. Even a non English speaker can follow and enjoy the story. One thing I did not really like: their gunshots which killed my ears too many times. But, those nasty gunshots should not prevent you from coming and enjoying the play performed by very good actors.

What a great play my editorial staff and I had the pleasure to see last week! The 39 steps is maybe the play of the month that we recommend. Of course, this play has already been performed a lot of times and there was the challenge: modernize a play which was already modern at the time when it was written. We can definitely say that the challenge is won! The actors are dynamic, hilarious and they bring the freshness which the play needed. They occupy the space in such a way that we feel as if we were where the action takes place as in Scotland or England. Moreover, the accents are so funny because they are, of course, caricatures. If you love British humour, this play is for you. It is a tribute to the original play because it has not lost its acrid humour so rush to buy your ticket!

The 39 steps : A wonderful play

Last week, a small British drama company performed the famous play The 39 steps. There were only three actors but their acting was perfect. Thanks to a simple woolen fabric, they carried us away in a flat in London, a theater or in Scotland. This performance was creative. Indeed, the director took the decision to insert some fairly good extracts from the movie by Hitchcock.
